Vikings vs Bears MNF 9/8/25

The first Monday Night game of the year features the debut of two first-round quarterbacks from last year's draft—JJ McCarthy versus Caleb Williams—in an NFC North showdown. The Bears revamped their offensive line during the offseason and also added the best play caller on the coaching market. I’m eager to see how JJ handles his first game in front of friends and family, being from the western suburbs of Chicago. I believe this is a game where he shows he’s ready for the big stage.

How the Vikings win:

They win by leveraging the league’s best defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, who will make it extremely difficult for the Bears to execute any pass-heavy offense. This isn’t the first time these coaches have faced off, so Flores will be well-aware of what Ben Johnson brings to the table. In addition to a stout defense, the Vikings will need JJ McCarthy to be the star they took a chance on, especially after letting Sam Darnold walk in free agency following a great year.

How the Bears win:

Caleb Williams is expected to make a significant leap this season, especially with Ben Johnson calling the plays and guiding the offense daily in practice. He cannot turn the ball over, and he’ll need to be locked in on film study to decode the Vikings’ defense. Pressure on the quarterback will be crucial—making life tough for a rookie making his first NFL start. Also, if the revamped offensive line struggles even a little, it could spell trouble, and no one on the team should blame the local media if that happens.

Prediction:

Expect a game with many stalled drives, as both quarterbacks are new to the NFL and may struggle early. I see the offenses forcing the ball to Loveland, who might get about five catches, but ultimately falling short. I predict a 24-17 loss for the Bears to start the season.
